Fun learning August 1, 2010 Katie (England) I bought this book on recommendation from a friend. My son is two and a half and had shown a lot of interest in learning to read so I wanted to encourage him. He loves this book and picked up the sounds really quickly thanks to the fun actions. His little brother likes to join in on the actions so hopefully that will help him when he is old enough too! I recommend this book and will be purchasing the next one in the series.
jolly phonics workbooks July 26, 2010 Emma brilliant for extra practice at home and for helping soothe the nursery school withdrawals over the holidays! enables parents to be involved in their children's learning.
If you have kids going into reception.....buy this. July 17, 2010 Big Al (uk) I was concerned that my son aged 4.5 would not sit still long enough to do any of the jolly phonics books.I neednt have worried he loves them!.He loves going through the workbooks and he also likes the songbook...He starts reception in 7 weeks so this is going to be a great start for his reading and writing.
Learning to read. May 7, 2010 I. Smith (UK) My 2 and a half year old (who has an aptitude for reading) has started using these books. In themselves they are great for learning sounds and the actions and activities that come with the books help her to remember the sounds the letters make. Very useful system which is easy to learn but I have found that on their own, the books are not enough and am now looking for some other books to complement this learning series.
My son started at three and loves it!!! April 3, 2010 OrganicGreen (London, United Kingdom) I did a lot of my own research online, books, tv, parents and teachers and finally arrived with the knowledge that teaching phonics was the best way to keatn to read and that Jolly Phonics was the best method available. I started off with the phonic songs cd and we both learnt all 42 songs for all the sounds. We also used the phonic poster to remind him about the sounds.
Once he started school he started with the first letters from the phonic scheme and my son was happy with this even though he knew the letters already. The school used these work books for him to take home for the parents to complete a few pages on it each week. We did one letter a week and started blending words after they kesrnts the first 6 letters in the first work book.
My son loved learning the songs, actions and writing the letters. The dings helped my son to learn the correct round dir the words and the action helped him to remember what the letter represented. My son learnt the letter sounds with the jolly cd at age three and then did these work books at school reception when he was four years old.
The work books are fun and has plenty if word games like drawing a line to match the picture with the letter sound. Plenty of colouring to do also. It is well worth getting the full set if workbooks as you can teach you child from home with the confident you are following a fun structured effective reading and writing scheme.
If you are home schooling or giving your child a good start before and during school then this is great. Look at the other products that Jolly phonics do as you can find the mix of products that best work with your child and your self.
Once he started recep at 4 he learnt how to form words using the 42 sounds learnt and star
