4 out of 5 stars A Volcano in my Tummy - method for the madness   July 3, 2010

This book was recommended to me by my daughter's class teacher. (We were struggling to deal with the anger coming from her dealing with early onset puberty.)
Though many of the worksheets are group based, and some are for 9 and 10 year olds, we have found it gives us ideas that we can adapt, and we have done the class worksheets as a family so that we are all learning to deal with anger, so avoiding our eldest daughter being 'punished' with more work, and also getting all the attention.

It involves hard work and commitment, but gets results in the end.

Some good ideas to use with children that have difficulties with controlling their anger- again some of the activities need to be adjusted for children of infant school age.

4 out of 5 stars Very good book/ designed especially for teachers, but useful for parents.   January 16, 2010

The book is very good differentiating between anger ( which the child is feeling) and behaviour (how they react when they are angry). It shows children how they can react "dirty" anger versus "clean" anger.

It has some good ideas and my six year old is at least listening and doing the exercises.

Only slight quibble is that although parents can find it useful and adapt it, it is written more for teachers or persons in charge of a group or session

I have been working with a very angry 8 yo boy and this book was brilliant in forming the work. The volcano theme worked well for him and the fact that it stresses that its ok to be angry was hugely realistic.
