Should be compulsory reading for all parents August 26, 2010 HanSolo 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a superb book and really should be compulsory reading for all parents of young children. It helps you with ideas for ways of introducing maths into everyday life and there are fun - yes fun - games to play with your children.
As they progress through the primary school curriculum, it helps you to understand the way that maths is being taught. You really will be able to help them out with their homework!
This book is great. It's very easy to read, amusing, full of useful tips and spot on with its advice.
You will never again need to worry that your child doesn't know how to do their maths homework!
The best maths book available for parents and carers August 10, 2010 NEm 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Speaking as an experienced primary school teacher, this book is a must buy.
Mike Askew is an authority in the field of maths learning. I've read a lot of excellent academic material written or edited by him; however, this book is targeted at parents or carers of Primary School age students. It gives a clear overview of the way maths is taught in schools today (from Reception to Year 6) with numerous examples and simple, effective games to practise the maths covered.
Accessible without being condescending, this publication would be useful for anyone wishing to support their child with their maths learning.
Very positive June 21, 2010 C. Groves (Worcestershire, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is great at explaining all the new terminology and methods used in primary school maths these days. In particular it has made it clear to me why the new methods are used and how they help children understand maths better rather than just having to learn it by heart as many of us did.
Maths for Mums and Dads June 7, 2010 Mrs. C. G. Wolfe (Stoke-on-Trent, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A very easy read coverage of Primary level Maths. Presented in good bite size sections and with fun games that even my daughter (Yr4)enjoyed. She doesn't usually enjoy much maths initiated by her parents!! We all enjoyed the humorous child test sheet answers. A great informative read.
Helping to teach primary maths March 23, 2010 Gill (Teynham, Kent) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
In all honesty I didn't buy this book for myself. My daughter is a student primary school teacher who discovered that maths is taught differently from when she learnt it...which wasn't that long ago! I saw a really good review of this book on a tv programme so bought it. We have both looked through it and it's amazing; simple explanations with current teaching methods...phew!
